Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture originated in China over 5000 years ago as an intrinsic part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The traditional Chinese believe that Qi (the energy of life) flows along meridians in our bodies, just as blood flows along blood vessels. In turn, these meridians or pathways are linked to specific internal organs and organ systems. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the uninterrupted, balanced flow of this energy keeps us alive and healthy. Similarly, if this life energy is impeded in any part of the body, disease (or dis-ease) results.

Acupuncture treatment is the art of inserting, manipulating and retaining very fine needles in specific “points” of the body to help create neurological, immunological, and endocrine responses.  A selection of points are utilized depending on the condition being treated along the meridians of the body to help correct or rebalance the flow of energy, consequently relieving pain and/or restoring health.  The insertion of the needles is virtually painless, comparable to a mild mosquito bite.

Traditional acupuncture is complementary to modern medical practice, rather than an alternative form of treatment. As a Traditional Acupuncturist, Alex Chang, will do a comprehensive medical history and customize the treatment based on complex theories regarding disturbance in the body’s balance that need to be addressed.  The treatment can be holistic addressing general health or focus on a specific condition as required.

Expect to feel deep sense of relaxation during and after treatment.  Acupuncture Therapy can provide increased energy, relief of pain and other symptoms immediately and over a series of treatments – depending on the severity of the condition.  Other benefits may include:  immune enhancement, anti-inflammatory response, anti-allergic response, improved mood and muscle recovery time.

Acupuncture therapy is used for virtually all health and wellness issues. At the ASCAM Clinic clients can be treated with acupuncture alone, or in combination with shiatsu and registered massage therapies.  Most extended health care plans in Ontario now cover acupuncture treatments.
